MBSR Orientation & Preview Session

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

Wednesday, March 4 | 6:00–8:30 pm
In person | Lyons, Colorado
Free | Registration required

This in-person orientation and preview session offers an introduction to the formal 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program beginning March 11. This is for anyone who is interested in the course, as an opportunity to ask questions, meet the facilitator, and get a feel for the program.

MBSR is a well-established, evidence-based program designed to support people in meeting stress, pain, and emotional intensity with greater steadiness, clarity, and care. The full course follows the standardized curriculum developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn and taught internationally in medical, clinical, and community settings.

The orientation session provides an opportunity to:

  • Learn about the structure, time commitment, and expectations of the 8-week MBSR program

  • Experience a brief guided mindfulness practice

  • Understand how mindfulness meditation supports nervous system regulation and emotional resilience

  • Ask questions and determine whether the course is a good fit for you at this time

Attendance at an orientation session is a required prerequisite for enrollment in the 8-week MBSR course and is an important part of the screening and readiness process.

The session is facilitated by Dr. Cynthia Garner, a certified mindfulness teacher with extensive training in mindfulness-based interventions through the UC San Diego School of Medicine and the Centre for Mindfulness Studies (Toronto). The orientation is taught in a trauma-sensitive, relational manner and is appropriate for those with no prior mindfulness or meditation experience.

This orientation is recommended for:

  • Individuals considering enrollment in the full 8-week MBSR program

  • Healthcare professionals, educators, therapists, and others interested in mindfulness-based interventions

  • Anyone seeking a structured, evidence-based approach to working with stress and overwhelm
